Every year, on 10 December, the world celebrates Human Rights Day, marking the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) — a milestone document that affirms dignity, equality, and freedom as universal principles.
Yet, more than 75 years later, women and girls around the globe continue to face barriers that prevent the full realization of their human rights. Inequality, discrimination, violence, limited access to education, and unequal opportunities in leadership and economic participation still shape the daily experiences of millions.
At BPW International, we believe that Human Rights cannot be fully achieved until women’s rights are respected, protected, and upheld in every society.
BPW’s Commitment to Women’s Rights
Across more than 100 countries, BPW members work tirelessly to advance women’s participation in business, leadership, education, and public life.
Through advocacy, capacity-building programs, economic empowerment initiatives, and global partnerships, our organization continues to champion gender equality as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
Because when women have equal rights, communities rise, opportunities grow, and the world moves forward.
Introducing a Global Call to Action: #EmpowerHerRights
To honor this important date and strengthen our collective voice, BPW International invites all members, clubs, federations, Young BPW, and leaders worldwide to join a unified digital movement:
Use the hashtag: #EmpowerHerRights
This hashtag represents more than a message — it is a commitment.
A commitment to:
- defend women’s human rights everywhere;
- amplify the voices of women who lead change;
- raise awareness about the challenges that girls and women still face;
- inspire action, advocacy, and transformation;
- strengthen our global identity as one BPW community.
By using #EmpowerHerRights, BPW members around the world join a shared mission to ensure that the rights of all women and girls are recognized, respected, and realized.
A Global Movement for Women’s Rights
Human rights belong to everyone, but advancing women’s rights requires each of us to take part.
On this Human Rights Day, we encourage all BPW members to:
- share educational content;
- highlight local or national challenges;
- celebrate progress;
- promote solutions;
- and recognize women who are leading human rights initiatives.
Together, we can amplify a global message of empowerment, equality, and transformation.
