Supporting Statement

To whom it may concern

I have the honor of submitting the nomination of Mrs. Huguette AKPLOGAN DOSSA as candidate for Regional Coordinator for Africa after the decision made by BPW African Regional Congress, August 2007 in Cotonou. Having been committed to women’s issues, Mrs. Akplogan Dossa is convinced of the importance and urgent need to work for women’s efficient leadership through the reinforcement of individual and collective skills and the solidarity among women organizations in Benin and in Africa. She has been Regional Coordinator for Social Alert, Social Watch and nominated for « Women of the Year Award » in 2008 in Benin.

Additionally, she created BPW Cotonou in May 2004 thus confirming her commitment to work for a true women leadership in taking their social, political and economic responsibility at local, national and regional levels. In order to accomplish her tasks as President of BPW Cotonou, she participated in some BPW meetings: International BPW Congress in Luzern in 2005; Regional Conferences in Cairo, in 2006; and in CWS New York, in 2008 and in the Individual Development Program (IPD). Her dynamism, that she transmitted to her Club, is also the reason of her nomination; as well as:

  • She helped created other clubs in Africa (Niger, Mali, Togo, Senegal);
  • She motivated new affiliations
  • She reinforced the capacities of current Clubs (Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Young BPW Benin, Nigeria and Burkina Faso)
  • She excelled in organizing African Congress in Cotonou in 2007;

Huguette’s nomination for BPW Regional Coordination is part of these actions. She commits herself to give BPW Africa a new start in order to offer BPW a real crucible of leadership culture, exchanges of experiences, reinforcements of capacities and opportunities, through:

  • The creation of new clubs in African Region
  • The reinforcement of current clubs;
  • Training women in business leadership and business culture in order to improve their professional, economic, political and social life.
  • Create an investment fund (capital/risk);
  • Network BPW African Clubs with clubs in other continents to insure BPW Africa visibility;
  • To lobby and advocate with regional institutions to gather recommendations for BPW Congress.
  • To create partnerships with UN agencies in Africa and other partnerships such as with Open Society Initiative for West Africa to train BPW.

With this experience, Huguette Akplogan Dossa seems to be the ideal candidate to help the blooming of BPW Africa, because between BPW and her there is a common vision, along with the triennial theme: «the power to make the difference through action and advocacy.

La Secrétaire Générale de BPW Cotonou

Tatiana YABI MAMA
