Vaccination Requirements

In general, it is not require to have a vaccination before entering Mexico, except when you come from a country that do not yet eradicated cholera and yellow fever. Please double check with Mexican embassy in your country to make sure of any health certificate requirement. Congress participants from Africa and several countries in America (such as Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Peru, Bolivia, and French Guyana) should obtain the necessary health measures. It is advisable that all travelers bring their health record among their documents.

If you want to travel outside the major tourist areas, immunisation against hepatitis A and B and typhoid is generally recommended. A malaria risk exists in some rural areas, but not on the Pacific and Gulf coasts.

Healthy Tips

• Drink bottle water. Tap water is not drinkable. You can bring it to boiling point and drink it once it’s left to cool off. Due to its chlorine, its taste is not so good, or can be a bit heavy on the stomach. Avoid ice cubes if you’re not sure they’ve been processed with the proper hygiene standards.
• Never buy / eat food in the street. Avoid peeled or chopped fruit or fruit based drinks (juices or pulp), they might not have the appropriate hygiene standards. Don’t buy cooked food, because infections can derive from cooking procedures.
• Be cautious with food with elaborated spices such as hot chilli.

In Mexico City you can have access to several types of pharmacies open from 9:00 to 20:00. Some are open 24 hours a day. It’s important to keep a pharmacy’s telephone number handy since one never knows when it might be needed. In case the medication you require comes from a foreign country, we recommend you to verify its existence in order to avoid unnecessary trips and to make sure your medical prescription recipe will be supplied. There are some drug stores that do deliveries with or free of charge, but tipping is expected.
