The
history of the International Federation
of Business and Professional Women is fascinating
in itself, and as written by Phyllis Deakin
in this book, has: become completely absorbing.
For
years our members in many countries have
been asking how I.F.B.P.W. began. They knew
the bare bones from the factual information
in Membership leaflets but they wanted more.
They wanted to know about the dedicated
women who worked for the International Federation
in the early days; they sought to discover
how the framework grew, the reasons why
decisions were made, the way in which resolutions
were implemented.
Our
members wanted the living story of I.F.B.P.W.
and this is what Phyllis Deakin has given
us. She has put life into the bare bones
of history.
It
is appropriate that this story should be
told in 1970, the year which marks the 40th
anniversary of the International Federation
of Business and Professional Women.
The
great value of history is that it teaches
us to plan a future based on the lessons
of the past. This book will inspire those
of us who are working now for the business
and professional women of all countries.
It will provide inspiration for the members
who take up the responsibilities of International
office in the future.
Above
all "In Pride and With Promise"
reminds us that we must never lower the
standard raised by our illustrious predecessors.
