BPW International
wins 2008 Award of Excellence from the Awards
for Publication Excellence™ (USA)
The objectives for redesigning
the web site, which was launched on 14 February
2007, are
|
-
One stop for online services for BPW
members.
-
Online services for members should improve
professionalism in BPW services while
lowering the cost of the office administration
and management.
-
A communication and marketing tool for
the public.
-
A public relations tool to attract potential
members.
The
challenges were in enhancing accessibility,
developing content and online services to
work in accordance to the Organization Reform’s
goals.
- Enhancing
accessibility: Technically,
information on the new web is set up
so that BPW web page would appear on
top of the list of Google search result,
especially information about BPW International’s
projects and events. The web site was
designed to allow people to get to information
and services within one to three clicks
from the home page.
- Developing
more content: The web site
is now partially available in all 4
official languages. The BPW 2007 web
version (as of December 2007) has tripled
the total number of web pages from the
BPW 2003 web version (as of Feb 2007);
increasing from 207 pages to 785 pages
(as of August 2008) and doubled the
total files for download from 318 files
to 743 files.(as of August 2008)
The
new content includes items such as two
volumes of BPW International History books
for the years 1930-1996; resolutions book
(1930-2005); presentations and photo galleries
from BPW conferences and events (about
25 events and 56 files or presentations
to download were added in 2007); more
new Projects (The total of 52 projects
were added in 2007); BPW members and projects
that won awards; news clippings related
to BPW work; Testimonies of BPW members;
BPW Anthem; more information about recent
activities with Partners organization;
young BPW recent activities, etc.
BPW
Digital archives of newsletters,
past candle-lighting ceremony messages,
congress proceedings are also post online.
Various official documents such as constitutions,
past resolutions, new Affiliates package,
and other official forms of BPW International
can also be downloaded from the web site.
-
Enhancing
Online Services: Existing
BPW Online services were grouped with
special buttons on the home page. This
includes the link to BPW International
newsletters, BPW Business pages (www.bpw-business.org),
BPW Roster Online (www.bpw-roster.info)
and BPW Calendar. BPW Pay Online was
launched to allow BPW members to pay
BPW International dues, make Friends’
donations or register for the Congress
via PayPal.
The
fun tasks for me were to redesign the graphic
layout, content structure and navigation.
I would like to thank my strong team who
develop and maintain the new web site and
online web services: including Roongroj
Gumnonmas, Thanrawee Jirakunaporn, Chantanee
Sakulsakpinit, Asadaporn Sae-Eng and Korea
Interns (Ji-Youn Kim, Eun Young Park, Kyu-In
Choi, and Kyun Jeong An).s I would like
to thank members of Communication taskforce:
Cecilia Quadri, Diana Barragan and Livia
Ricci for translating a part of this web
site into Spanish, French and Italian
I would
like to thank the BPW Executive Board members
and BPW members worldwide who help contributed
to the web content, Naphaphen Vejjajiva
(Director’s of President’s office)
for helping me collect the information;
Anna Fang (member of PR Committee) and her
team of University interns and the worldwide
native English speaking members from the
US, Australia, Hong Kong, the UK, Europe,
and around Asia who took on the overwhelming
task of reviewing the standard, spelling
and grammar of the web site in preparation
for the competition earlier this year.
I would
also like to thank the previous web teams
especially Sharon Selkirk, chair of ICT
taskforce who developed and maintained earlier
versions of the web site and Gabriella Canonica,
who developed the BPW Business Pages and
BPW Roster Online, which enriched the online
services.
The new web site received a lot of positive
reviews from BPW members worldwide. Based
on information regarding projects on the
web sites, BPW International won a Peace
Award from Russia. There were several countries
that expressed interest in forming BPW clubs
after visiting the web site. In the summer
of 2008, the BPW International web site
(www.bpw-international.org), won an “Award
of Excellence” from the Awards for
Publication Excellence (APEX™ USA).
We
also developed the Congress microsite for
the XXVI BPW International Congress in a
way that it can be used as a template for
future congresses.
