Aim is to develop professional and leadership
potential for women at all levels. There
are many other emerging issue to address.
One of the most serious one is “Migration”.
In the past the migration is often caused
by poverty and conflicts. Today, employment
by transnational companies can also cause
women to migrate. If they did not move,
their husbands may move. Highly educate
young women may not be able to find jobs
within their own countries and have to seek
for job elsewhere.
BPW
need to investigate women right for migrants,
as legislations that protect women’s
right for local women may not cover the
women’s right for migrant women. BPW
has an opportunity to mentor migrated business
women to integrate into the new society
socially and culturally.
In
the future, it is questionable whether young
BPW would prefer to network by attending
conferences or congresses. As oil reserve
is depleting, the oil price and travel price
go up. BPW has to look for ways to strengthen
our network electronically. We may choose
a common task that BPW world-wide can do
together to create global impact.
For
the 21st Century we need to pursue an ambition
that has not yet been realized. This is
“Equal Participation for women and
men in Power and Decision Making Roles”.
Many young professional women can advance
through middle management earlier in their
careers. But as they are approaching the
top, they often hit the glass ceiling. Sometime,
even when they can get to the top positions,
they still have to face problems as they
did not get equal pay for equal work. BPW
need to strengthen our effort to tackle
these issues in order to attract younger
members.
BPW
International is undergoing organization
review and reform to deal with these questions
plus many more. I look forward to work young
BPW. Together we can shape up BPW International
so that young BPW today will become the
influential BPW members who make the difference
in the 21st Century.
