Entrepreneurship
is an important source of job creation and
opening career opportunities for women.
Developing of entrepreneurship in transition
countries helps women to start their own
business. But many women have difficulties
at the beginning stage of the development.
They need help and consultations of professionals,
which have wide experience. Nowadays Federation
of Business and Professional Women of Uzbekistan
is solving this problem by realization new
pilot program in cooperation with ADB and
WOCCU. We can express principle of this
project by statement of philosopher: “Don’t
give a fish, but give a rod and teach how
to fish”. In order to develop small
and medium business, farming the law on
the credit unions in Uzbekistan has been
accepted on April 4, 2002. Federation of
Business and Professional Women of Uzbekistan
actively participated in elaborating and
accepting of this law. As result of this
Credit union Sherdor has been created on
September, 21, 2002 on the basis of the
credit union Kafolat working at the Business
Women Association of the Samarkand region
since 1997. Credit union is a regional financial
institute.
Objectives:
- Delivery of credits to people who are
beginning business
- To help to develop and introduce business-plan
for business developing
- To help members of Credit Union to
make the best savings in the financial
market of Republic of Uzbekistan
- To develop new financial products for
clients
- To manage finance of own business
- Development credits for students
- Informing members about any financial
changes in the financial market of Republic
of Uzbekistan (through release of newsletters)
Results:
- 173 loans in amount of $111,200 have
been issued for business women and 43
loans for education in amount of $22,350
have been issued for young girls
- 360 business women have been trained
during work
- 90 women have acquired a new specialization
- 56 families have been involved in own
business by loans issuing
- 142 credits in amount of $150,000 had
been received from commercial banks and
inappropriate funds on preferential bases
with the help of the Federation of BPW
of Uzbekistan
- 712 new workplaces have been created,
18 drug addicted women and 15 women received
burns have been rehabilitated
- 8 women who had problems in the family
have been enlisted
As a result of successful
activity of the project we helped more than
1167 women.
