Objectives
The purpose is to raise funds to complete
the auditorium for the Silvia Salazar Salazar
School of Nursing, La Paz, Mexico. In March
2003, the foundation stone for the proposed
auditorium was laid and was dedicated to
Dr Yvette Swann a former BPW International
President. Funds are desperately needed
to complete the building. All donors are
given a Certificate of Ownership and will
be acknowledged on a plaque at the school.
Description
In Mexico, BPW International through Project
Five-O built the first nursing school in
Baja California Sur on land donated by the
local government. Training is provided in
maternity/infant nursing, surgical/medical
nursing, administrative nursing services
and nutrition. The school continues to operate
successfully under the leadership of Prof.
Silvia Salazar a former president of BPW
Mexico and remains a wonderful monument
to BPW International. The auditorium is
Stage II of the original project.
Expected
results
In October 2003, in recognition of the high
quality of the training given at the school,
it became the first education institution
to be certified with the ISO 9001:2000.
Completion of the auditorium would greatly
enhance the teaching facilities enabling
the education of more students in an area
of need. The project is ongoing and funds
are currently being raised through local
government and by BPW Clubs worldwide. Bricks
may be donated for $100 and chairs for the
auditorium $1000.
