Description:
"Choice and Opportunity-Oriented
Schooling" (COOS) project is nation-wide
project, offering for children and youth
aged 6-22 years old.
The programmed first
trained tutors to conduct the “applied
economics classes” at the high schools.
These tutors then taught children and young
people to learn both theoretical and practical
aspects of applied economics according to
the non-traditional curriculum developed
for the different age groups.
Children were given
an opportunity to establish their own “real”
companies duly registered by the district
and provincial taxation and other related
offices. The registered companies run by
children and students were given legal permission
to act, produce and trade at the market.
They were providing the taxation and other
offices with their activity and financial
reports as real business companies.
Annual exhibition and
fair has been conducted where these companies
were given opportunity to show and demonstrate
their products and outputs for the jury,
sponsors and general public. The companies
range from selling souvenirs to running
internet cafes, bakery shops and organizing
youth dancing and disco clubs.
Awards were given to
the best companies out of all 175 companies.
The best students were also identified and
given chance to continue their study using
the sponsorship granted by the “Motherland
& Family”Association and the Erel
– San Foundation.

This
project is not solely BPW project because
it was conducted by VP of BPW Mongolia (Ms.
D. Sergelen) in her role as Chairperson
of “Motherland & Family”
Women’s Association (which raised
about half a million dollars to support
the project). It is also funded by “Erel”
Foundation which gave the other half a million
dollars. However, many BPW members did participate
in this project to justify that it’s
BPW activities.
