Description:
As
the literacy rate of women in Nepal is very
low - 42.5 percent, BPW Nepal has been engaged
in women literacy campaign from the very
beginning since 1975. This is a continuously
ongoing program.
During the period Jan, 2002 to Oct.2004,
Literacy class of 6 months were conducted
in Biratnagar in eastern region of Nepal,
Thimi metropolitan city of Bhakatapur district
,Purano Guheswori village and Balambu village
of Kathmandu district and Patan.
Results:
• |
50
poor and disadvantaged women became
literate (read and write Nepali language
and basic mathematics) in Biratnagar
metropolitan city, class conducted
by Biratnagar BPW. |
• |
30 women became
literate in Thimi metropolitan city,
class conducted by project 5-o. |
• |
30 women became
literate in Purano Guheswori village
of Kathmandu district, class conducted
by project 5-0. |
• |
375 women became
literate in Balambu village of Kathmandu
district, classes conducted by BPW
Kathmandu under the project Eco.Emp.
of women. |
• |
Total 485 women
became literate which helped them
to read nepali text books, nepali
news papers, to read and write letters
in nepali and acquired basic mathematics
skills. |
• |
It has also helped
them to go out freely.by buses from
one place to other. |
• |
Literacy has
helped them to participate in skilled
training. |
