Objectives
The
taskforce started as a result of the resolution
of world congress in Melbourne in 2002.
The taskforce aims to promote:
- the implementation of “the Dublin
Principles” in order to help safeguard
the right of women and men to safe affordable
drinking water, protection from “to
much water” and clean water resources
- awareness on the all important issue
of safeguarding our water and getting
women involved
- achieving the goals of Agenda 21 and
the Millenium goals on the subject of
“water”
Description
Why
Women for Water?
- No Water - no Life. Water is a vulnerable
resource. Without safe drinking water
and clean fresh water, we can not grow
food and sustain our own existence.
- “Water is everybody’s business”:
it is not only the business of women in
countries where there is a water shortage,
of farmers, technicians or governments,
but of all of us. Women have to express
their needs, come up with good local solutions
and insist on balancing the management
and use of water.
Results
The
taskforce:
- Covers the world / every region, acting
as a “linking pin”, mediators,
translators
- involves as many women as possible
by having local and regional “water
ambassadors”
- Every woman’s input is important
and worthwhile - stimulates Projects involving
women in Integrated Water Resource Management
(IWRM) by enabling and empowering (local)
womens' groups to participate successfully
in any form and at every level by acting
as facilitators - uses existing knowledge,
experience.
