Members of the Business and Professional
Women’s Club recently visited with
Mariko Jack, the wife of Governor H.E
Stuart Jack, at her residence, Government
House. The occasion was marked by Mrs
Jack’s acceptance of her role as
Patron of the BPW Club. Annie Multon,
President of BPW, confirmed the appointment
with a pinning. The visit took place over
an official tea, Mrs Jack’s duties
as the new BPW Patron will include hosting
and attending official functions and receptions.
Mrs Multon said: “Every Patron brings
her own new and unique touch to the club.
We very much looking forward to working
with Mrs. Jack, and learning from her
new approach to topical issues.”
Mrs Jack will hold the post for the remainder
of her tenure in the Cayman Islands. Traditionally,
with the appointment of a new governor,
the BPW Club requests his wife to consider
taking on the role.
The Club also held elections and the
new officers are: Annie Multon President,
Velma Hewitt 1st Vice President, Rocio
Esau 2nd Vice President, Alexa Thomas
Secretary and International Relations
Officer, Andrea Williams as Treasurer,
Exie Tomlinson Public Relations Officer,
Annick Pasquali Membership Officer, and
Angela Doyle as Chairperson of 16 Days
of Activism.
Young BPW, new chairperson is Marsha
Smith, Charmaine Moss who held this position
previously.
The President highlighted the harrowing
yet common issue of domestic violence
which often impedes the progress of women
and children. “We need to be proactive
in dealing with the many issues related
to women and children which negatively
affect the family home, which is the structure
of our society. Our homes need to be strong,
even if this means we challenge the Government,
the Judiciary, Immigration and the Churches
in order to remedy these situations”,
she said.
Members of the BPW expressed their anticipation
on working with the newly formed executive
committee, and reiterated their commitment
to furthering the club’s goals.
