How
The assistances to help
women help themselves are those that give
women the knowledge, education, skill, advice,
guidance, opportunities, strength, or other
solutions to overcome their crisis so that
the women can establish and/or advance their
businesses or professions. For examples,
the following would count as "Helping
Women Help Themselves" activities.
| |
TRAIN
- women with skill to earn a living.
|
| |
TEACH
- women how to read, how to manage business,
etc. |
| |
MENTOR
- women to advance their career. |
| |
FIND
JOBS - or help identify job
opportunities for women. |
| |
LOAN
- women seed funding to start their
businesses. |
| |
PREVENT
- exploitation of young women. |
| |
LOBBY
- to enhance women’s legal right. |
| |
CHILD
CARE - for working mother. |
| |
REHABITATE
- abused women. |
| |
GIVE
- educational resource such as books,
scholarships. |
| |
… AND
many other creative projects! |
In
general, charitable activities that simply
give women temporary relief would not count.
When the assistant is to give money or things,
there are fine line on what’s count
and what does not count. For examples, giving
loans for women to start their businesses
and giving scholarship to enable girls to
go to school would count as "helping
women help themselves" activities (as
it gives opportunities for women), but a
donation to charity or handing out money
would not count. Giving books for school
and teaching women literacy would count
(as it gives knowledge), but giving food
and clothing would not.
This
is by no means stating that charity work
is not important, but what distinguish BPW
International from other women organization
is our focus on promoting women in their
businesses and professions. So the activities
that support this purpose is what being
encourage here.
