The
objective of Beyond 2000: Helping Women
Help Themselves competition is to encourage
BPW to help women to sustain themselves
and to promote the participation of young
BPW members.
Awards were given at the XXIV BPW International
Congress in Melbourne, Australia in October
2002. Thirteen countries participated in
this competition. At this competition, BPW
Donetsk, Ukraine won Excellent Country Effort
Trophy for helping over 9,000 women during
1999-2002. BPW Outeniqua, South Africa won
"Excellent Project Trophy" for
"PHAMBILI – Helping Domestics
Violence Victims" projects. Other
countries that won Outstanding BPW Medals
include Korea, Mexico, Canada, Cyprus, Thailand,
Pakistan, New Zealand, Mongolia, and Nepal.
Young BPW from Germany and Canada won Outstanding
Young BPW Leaders awards. Overall, winning
projects from this competition helped over
30,000 women to help themselves during 1999-2002.

How
The
assistances to help women help themselves
are those that give women the knowledge,
education, skill, advice, guidance, opportunities,
strength, or other solutions to overcome
their crisis so that the women can establish
and/or advance their businesses or professions.
For examples, the following would count
as "Helping Women Help Themselves"
activities.

JOBS - for women. |

PREVENT
- exploitation of young women. |

LOBBY
- to enhance women’s legal right.

SUPPORT
- organizations that do the above activities.

Rules
1. |
Activities
that quality for this competition
must help women (of any ages, and
not necessary in your own country)
to enable them to help themselves.
This excludes activities that directly
hand out of money to women. |
2. |
Activities
during April 1999 to February 2002
are qualified. |
3. |
Projects
with young BPW participation will
be given special credits. |
Report
Format
- Name of your BPW club
- Name of BPW president
- Name of project
- Description of the projects/events
- Impact of the project (including number
of women being helped)
- Evidence (photographs, etc.)
- Names of young BPW members who participated
(optional - for special credit).
