"Helping
Women Help Themselves" is an international
competition for Business and Professional
Women (BPW), with emphasis on the young
BPW members age 35 or under (Young Career
Women (YCW)). The objective of the competition
is helping women to help themselves.
Awards
were be given at the XXIII BPW International
Congress in Vancouver, Canada in September
1999. At this competition, BPW Thailand
won both the "Excellent Country Effort
Trophy" and "Excellent Project
Trophy". Overall, BPW Thailand helped
1,146 women to help themselves during 1996-1999.

Awards
The three types of
awards are as follows:

Excellent
Country Effort Trophy (1 award):
This award is for the country that
helps the highest number of women
in ways which have the highest impact.
The Award will be given to the President
of the Federation of Business and
Professional Women or, where a Federation
does not exist, the President of the
Associate BPW club of the country,
in recognition of the successful participation
of their BPW members in BPW activities
that help women help themselves. |

Excellent
Project Trophy (1 award):
This award is for the most innovative
and highest impact project that helps
women help themselves. The Award will
be given to the young BPW member who
is the head of the project for her
leadership ability.

Outstanding
BPW Medals (unlimited awards):
This award is for any BPW club that
helps at least 100 women to help themselves.
Awards will be given to the Presidents
of the BPW clubs that have encouraged
young BPW members to participate in
BPW activities the help women help
themselves. |

Rules
Activities
that quality for this competition must be
those that help women (of all ages) to be
empowered to help themselves. These activities
include things like training women to develop
skills to earn a living, teaching women
to be literate, finding jobs for women,
preventing sexual exploitation of young
girls, rehabilitating women after various
forms of abuse, taking care of infants to
enable single mothers to work, etc. These
activities also include supporting organization
that provides resources to enable women
to help themselves. But the activities exclude
direct hand out of money to women.
To
quality for the "Excellent Country
Effort Trophy" award or "Outstanding
BPW Medals" awards, at least five young
BPW members (age 35 or under) must participate
in each BPW activity that helps women help
themselves.
To
quality for the "Excellent Project
Trophy" award, the project must be
headed by a young BPW member age 35 or under.
Activities
during July 1996 March 1999 can be included
if they adhere to rules 1, 2, and 3 above.
Submission
Deadline
Each
BPW shall submit 5 copied of the report
(in English) by 15 April 1999. The report
must contain evidence to validate the information
pertaining to the success of the project
or activities, such as names of participants
and photographs of the events.
If
there is a Federation of BPW in the country,
these reports should be sent to the President
of the Federation by the end of March 1999.
In turn, she should submit five copies of
the country report, attaching all related
BPW reports to Sylvia G. Perry at the Headquarters
in the United Kingdom. If there is no Federation
in the country, each BPW Associate club
can send the reports directly to the Headquarters.
Report Format
- Country Report: summarize accomplishment
of all BPW Clubs in the country.

Project/Activities
Report: summarize each project and activity.
Please attach evidence such as photographs
or list of names whenever possible.
Evaluation
The President of BPW International, Sylvia
G. Perry, appointed the BPW International
Trustees to be adjudicators of this project.
The projects were be judged by its impact
on women, as well as by a number of women
being helped.
