a Back-to-School Drive to assist students
from low-income families throughout the
Cayman Islands to be adequately prepared
for the school year. Teaching young people
about the value of community service is
a goal of Young BPW Cayman. If you do good
for someone else, you also feel better about
yourself. Items donated from rulers, backpacks

"Women
Helping Youth with Choices"
Members of the Young Business & Professional
Women’s Club (Young BPWC) recently
made a useful presentation to students of
the University College of the Cayman Islands
(UCCI) under the theme, "Women
Helping Youth with Choices".
The presentation included several entertaining
skits performed by Young BPW members to
demonstrate key elements of a successful
job interview including proper attire, hygiene
and dialogue. Topics presented in depth
by Club members included what to expect
and how to apply one’s self on the
job, acceptable women’s and men’s
attire and hairstyles, and how one’s
general behavior and attitude affects one’s
career development.
Teaching
Etiquette: The first session of
etiquette was presented to a group of young
mothers at the Young Parents Programme School.
We focused on cleanliness, good grooming,
personal responsibility, table manners,
confidence, and achieving goals. The team
explained that etiquette is not inherited
and it has to be learned. Table manners:
we covered posture, basic meal outline,
napkin use and use of flatware. For make-up
application and hair styles: some topics
discussed included: applying blush, using
the right eye shadow, making shadow last,
lining eyes, lip liner and lipstick, and
creating full lips. Good manners were seen
as a part of a person’s behavior. They reflected
the style and nature of an individual.
Earth
Day Clean Up: Hundreds of volunteers
from members of businesses and community
groups including the Young Business &
Professional Women's Club participated in
the Chamber’s 9th Annual Earth Day Roadside
Clean-up on Saturday, 22nd April. Wearing
t-shirts with the Earth Day and sponsors’
logos, volunteers took to the streets across
all corners of the Islands removing hundreds
of bags of litter and debris.
Child
Month: In recognition of Child
Month, the Young BPW Club assisted the Department
of Children and Family Services by joining
in their efforts in hosting a special family
fun day around the Islands to celebrate
childhood and all the fun that goes with
it. West Bay youngsters were showing just
how much fun they could have given the chance.
Just to ensure that energy levels remained
high, there was food galore and many other
giveaways to entertain the kids and their
parents, who all welcomed the opportunity
to relax and watch their children have fun
or in some cases, the more energetic joined
in the activities themselves.
In closing, we also donated blood to the
blood bank and did several fundraising events
such as: the Batabano Cake Sale; Psychedelic
Night – this was a 60’s and 70’s party (the
club raised over USD$1300).; and the “A
Night of Jazz & Fashion” – our first
fashion show was a sold out event and all
proceeds went to the Youth Empowerment Program.
