1)Awareness of Vitamin A Program:
The awareness program was target to the household women basically involve in vendor activities. They were informed about the food and vegetable available in our garden can give a lot of health benefits. And some major vegetable providing mark able impact were also dealt like for example they were told that lemon gives vitamin E which makes eye sight sharp and memory strong and also helps to prevent from mal nutrition.

2) Women Literacy Program:
This program was focused to the women basically and women of every age group were there .An active participation of all class of women was seen and age groups of 14-60 were involved. Twenty women were made literate in six months time and this program was held in ward number 3, Janata school of Biratnagar sub metropolitan city.

3) An interactional program:
We were able to conduct awareness program related to girl trafficking in Biratnagar itself in which the targeted groups were teens. The students from some schools were invited and were awaken about the bad consequences that trafficking brings and also were taught how the girls are trapped by the trafficker.

Not only this as an interactional program on women empowerment was also conducted on the occasion of International Women Year

4) Parents Awareness Program:
This program was very beneficial and a major active participation was seen during the program. In this program parents were taught about how to handle their kids from their birth itself. Firstly the care while they are in womb was taught and later sequentially all the phases of the child’s lifecycle was dealt with.

5) Funds Raising Program:
In this program through a stall in Koshi Industrial Fair held in Biratnagar the organization tried to raise funds by selling confectionary product. BPW-Biratnagar raises its funds to support various women development programs by organizing exhibition sales, fare and charity shows.

6) Day care centre:
The organization is conducting a day care center at Balwai, Biratnagar ward number 11 for children of 3 to 5 years of age. These children are of those working mothers who belong to the labors class of society. This was established in 1999 and is still in operation.

BPW-Biratnagar distributed food supportive to old people in old age homes. Also, school uniforms and slippers were often distributed among children of day care centre.

7) Tailoring Training class:
BPW-Biratnagar started a tailoring training class at godhuli marg in 2005. The program was very successful and there were a lot of women willing to join but due to our limitation we were able to enroll only 30 women and they are benefited from these training and some of them had already opened their own shops too.

8) Poverty elevation through socio-economic Activities:
BPW-Biratnagar conducted survey on poverty reduction through socio economic activities in April-2007 in the 2 VDCs namely Baijyanathpur and Kathari. The baseline survey was done in ward number 1&2 of katahari and ward number 2, 3&4 of Baijyanathpur. As the survey showed lower women literacy percent, two sites in katahari and the other two in baijyanathpur were selected for the program. Two facilitator for each ward were seen chosen for TOT (training of teacher) class who trained women for literacy. During the program, the same women were first provided five day health awareness training and then the other for social awareness and self-esteem. Later, the targeted women received skill development training where they learnt to make incense sticks (dhoop) and candles.


Impact / Different made


At community level:

  • The most significant impact seen was women were educated and some of them also developed confident to do their own small business like selling vegetable and opening small road shops.
  • The other benefit that the program gave was a social benefit i.e. employment generation local women, which also helped them additional in terms of finance to their household.
    ? As they are educated they have started encouraging their children to go school thus the drop out have been minimized among girls.
  • Some of the women who were involved in sewing and candle and incense making project are now able to open their own stores and are ready to provide service.
  • The involvement of women in small business has given them idea about saving is important and now they are willing to deposit their micro saving and some are seeking micro credit
  • We can see the change in people they have started thinking in a broad way and shows a great concern for life and for good way of living and they have also started thinking that work is most.
  • After gaining education, they have also started develop a good hygiene as they have started living clean and also have made their house and courtyard clean.

At Institutional level

  • This activity developed a self confident and helped to build decision making power among BPW-Biratnagar members, now given a chance they can work in bigger project and they won’t let the stone unturned.
  • At the initial phase people were not taking the project seriously as it was also women oriented but now the scenario is changes and people have started viewing the project with due respect.

Approximately till now we are able to serve 300 women out of which 30-40 people are changed and have started working for them self and remaining are also aware about the way of living, education and impact of work in life.
