She is the Chair of Golden Land Company Limited who successfully steered her real estate company through the Thai Financial Crisis of 1997. She is also on the Board of Directors for Thai Airways.

Patara Sila-On, Member of BPW Thailand won the “Leading Women Entrepreneur of the World” from the Stars Group in 2006. She is the chair of S & P Company Limited, which manages the largest Thai Restaurant chain in Thailand and Patara Restaurants in London , Geneva , Zurich , Singapore and Taiwan.

Anna Fang, Past President of BPW Hong Kong was nominated for the Hong Kong Volunteer Award and the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman’s Award in 2006. Anna also won numerous Grand Awards and Awards of Excellence for her PR and marketing communication projects from the Awards for Publication Excellence (USA) since 1995.

Silvia Salazar

Silvia Salazar, the coordinator of BPW International Project’s School of Nursing in La Paz , Mexico, is the first recipient of the Lena Madesin Philipps Fellowship. This Fellowship was awarded to Silvia Salazar on 10 March 2006. She was nominated by President Chonchanok Viravan and her nomination was unanimously approved by the Executive Board for her outstanding twenty years of commitment to the School of Nursing , La Paz , BCS, Mexico.

La Paz Nursing school is one of longest running International Projects of BPW International. Since the project conception in 1985 when the International Congress was held in Auckland , New Zealand and Rosemarie Michel (then President of IFBPW) appointed her the Coordinator of this project, Silvia Salazar has been working tirelessly to coordinate the work both at local and International level. She assisted several BPW International Presidents through the process of getting the land granted from the Governor of La Paz and raising funds to build the buildings.

After CONALEP signed the 30 year agreement to run the facility as a school of nursing with Yvette Swan (then President of IFBPW), Silvia Salazar continued her efforts to support the school to help raise funds for the scholarships among many other things. To date, hundreds of nurses have graduated from this school, many of whom received scholarships from member countries of BPW International such as Mexico , Australia , United Kingdom , etc.

Silvia Salazar’s nomination for the Lena Madesin Phillips Fellowship is supported by President Chonchanok, Past President Yvette Swan, Past President Livia Ricci, and by BPW New York and BPW Canada who have pledged to donate to the BPW International Project fund. The funds raised to support her nomination will be donated to the La Paz Nursing school.

 


Edwina Bicker

Edwina Bicker

Edwina Bicker's Background: She was born and educated in Yorkshire, England. She initially trained as a teacher of Housecraft and Needlework and taught cookery and needlework for two and a half years before becoming an Articled Clerk (trainee solicitor) with a firm in Maidstone. She passed the Solicitors Qualifying Examination with Honours and at the same time obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from London University. A family law specialist, she became senior partner in the firm where she had trained and was the second woman to be President of the Kent Law Society in 1994 before being appointed a District Judge in 1995. She is the first woman to become President of the Association of Her Majesty's District Judges.

Edwina was legal advisor to BPW UK Ltd for many years and acted in a similar capacity for BPW International. She was National President of BPW UK Ltd from 1985 – 1987 and served on the Womens' National Commission during her presidency. She was Chief Parliamentatian at the International Congress in The Hague and Chairman of Constiution and Resolutions Committee in Nairobi, chairing the sessions which made radical changes to the IFBPW Constitution. She has been married for 35 years, enjoys acting, reading, decorative needlework and in 2000 qualified as a scuba diver.
