BPW Zambia : 35 Day Project on Economic Governance
BPW Zambia : 35 Day Project on Economic Governance
The women of Africa have continued to inspire us. BPW Zambia has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The African Women’s Development and Communication Network FEMNET to undertake a 35 day project on Economic Governance on a research carried out in 5 African countries.
FEMNET decided to initiate a Regional project to understand better the gender effects of the economic partnership agreements that the European Union is currently negotiating with different economic blocs in Africa and how African women can fully benefit from these new trade arrangements. The project is entitled: Promoting African Women’s Economic Empowerment through Gender – Responsive Trade Agreements. BPW Zambia will champion the project and engage all stakeholders.

BPW Zambia President Sylvia Mwansa says: “Our association with FEMNET has put BPW Zambia on another level in terms of awareness of who we are. We have been able to advertise our name because of the press releases, which normally we would not have afforded. It has earned us a place in our Cabinet office and has made us the leading women organization to receive information from relevant ministry and disseminate it to others. So all of a sudden, BPW is in the news. Last night BPW was interviewed before the Country Budget speech for a comment on expectations. Today, I have spent the whole day answering calls and congratulating BPW. All these accolades were not going to be realized if it was not for our association with FEMNET. So in some instances, its good to make such relationships. What I m sending over, is signifying that BPW in Zambia is getting some marks and identity which we are pleased with”.
