BPW Lagos, Nigeria: Sex Education Project Takes Awareness to Secondary School, Ogun State
The awareness creation programme was held in at Iganmode Grammar School, Sango Ota, Ogun State on the 4th of October, 2011. Two thousand (2000) school girls aged between 9 and 13 years were in attendance. The facilitators for the programme were Dr Mrs M. A. Oladitan and Mrs Vivian Emesowum
Highlights of issues for discussion included:
- Discovering your nature as girls; assets and future nation builders.
- Discovering your bodies as girls – What is puberty? Signs of puberty (menstruation, breast development and other physical evidence of puberty
- What is sexual Abuse?
Recognizing/Understanding inordinate sexual advances from the opposite sex – fathers, brothers, uncles, neighbours, school mates, friends, etc.
Negative effects of premature sex on their present lives and their futures.
How to prevent sexual abuse from the opposite sex.
It was a very interactive programme with questions and answer session and active participation by the audience.
The programme was sponsored in kind by Nestle Nigeria Plc. And De United Foods. The school girls were served refreshments (Milo drink from Nestle foods, Indomie from De united foods and biscuits were provided by BPW Lagos).
