REPORT ON ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY BPW MFOUNDI ON THE OCCASION OF THE WIDOWS' INTERNATIONAL DAY 2ND EDITION

On 22nd of June 2012, BPW Mfoundi Club carried out a series of activities to commemorate alongside with the international community, the 2nd edition of the Widows' International Day under the theme: "The Rights of Widows". Activities included two majors moments previously announced in two televised programs in French on Wednesday and in English on Thursday namely: a round table conference and a fundraising gala night.

 

The round table conference

The round table conference on the situation of widows in Cameroon took place in the morning at Djeuga Hotel from 8.30AM to 1PM. About 60 windows actuaUy responded to our invitation. The panelists included :

  • The president of BPW Mfoundi Club
  • A barrister widow who spoke about the rights of widows and obstacles encountered in their fulfilment.
  • A Reverend Pastor from the Presbyterian Church of Cameroon
  • Two representatives of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family
  • A representative of UN Women


Training with the widows

The occasion was moderated by a CRTV journalist. It will be broadcasted on a day which is still to be chosen on CRTV convenience. It is worth mentioning that BPW Mfoundi Club was declared a partner of UN Women since the club has a governance system. The Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family has also registered BPW Mfoundi Club in its action plan for 2012-2013.

 

A fundraising gala night

This occasion was to raise funds to support activities of sorne widows in rural ereas and to grant scholarship to their orphans for the 201212013 school year. It took place at Hilton Hotel and was chaired by the Technical Adviser, personal representative of the Minister of Women Empowerment and the Family. The UN Women representative was in attendance. AU the Young of our Club were also involved On Saturday the 22nd BPW Mfoundi Club was guest of honour of the Minister of Women Empowerment and the Farnily during the celebration of the 2nd edition of the Widows' International Day in Yaoundé.
