July15 – September 30 BPW Bangkok, BPW Pathumnond & FIDAPA Foundation together with 8 other organizations (NCWT, Kwanruen Women Magazine, Zonta BKK 1,5,6, Soroptimist International Club of BKK, Siri Sathorn, Kiatnakin Bank Foundation), jointly organized the 8th Give Women a Second Chance Project at Central Women Correctional Institution in Thailand. Our closing ceremony will be on 6 October 2010 at Central Women Correctional Institution in Thailand.
Our project aims to provide training opportunities to learn new skills for women inmates (and some for prison officers) so that they can to earn extra income while in prison, and can find what they like to do for a living afterward. This way they will not go back to sell drugs or commit crime when they are back into the society again. Moreover, if they save enough money while in prison, when they get out, they will have enough seed funding to start their own business too.
These trainings include vocational (i.e. dry cleaning, hair cutting, fashion design, make-up, facial & foot spa), handicraft (ie. croche teddy bear, batik & dye cloth, gift basket, miniature fruit basket), educational (marketing & accounting), special technique to be successful in doing business, cooking various type of foods & snacks, bakery (cake & brownie), and various other knowledge to change their way of thinking in order to see the new perspective in life. Some other trainings are such as Mind Map, Opportunities to do networking business after they finish their term in prison (i.e. Nuskin, Aviance, Giffarine), learn how to save and manage their own money, etc.
The overall training lessons this year are approx. 80 training lessons and target to train approx. 4,400 ++ women. Right now I am on my 44th training lessons already.
