The participants of the DACH (DACH: D/Germany – A/Austria – CH/Switzerland) meeting went home highly motivated, inspired and recharged with BPW power. This meeting shows how powerful a meeting of BPW can be. All participants were enthusiastic about this year's meeting. The program was varied, full of interaction and opportunities to network across borders. Pictures of the BPW DACH meeting.
At the network event on Friday evening in Appenzell the particular importance of women in the region was explained, because in earlier times they earned money through their high quality hand embroidery. This was shown also by the most beautiful costumes which they wore. Such a dress was presented by a BPW member in her traditional “work costume”.
The Saturday was in a specific format, an Open Space moderated by Maya Burkhard from Thun. After the introduction the participants brought their topics that were discussed during the day in 20 working groups. These topics were put onto a “market place” and the participants could then decide themselves in which groups they wanted to go. And there were also the "Bumblebees" and "Butterflies" alternating between the workshops and flying around. In an Open Space everything is voluntary, so the discussions in the working groups were very intense and committed.
On saturday evening we celebrated the jubilee of 80 years BPW International. The president of the national council of Switzerland, Pascale Bruderer Wyss, emphasized in her speech the importance of our network and campaigns like Equal Pay Day, which she promised to support in the next year. Gabriella Canonica, 1st vice president of BPW International showed a multi-media presentation of eight decades of BPW International, which was impressing to everyone.
On Sunday morning the results of the workshops which were documented in Powerpoint during the night by Sabine Schmelzer, president of BPW Switzerland, were presented by each working group. The subjects were for example: Young BPW how to win and to keep them, sponsorship, BPW short trips, connecting more to BPW International, mediation in BPW, marketing concept for BPW, BPW success teams, BPW as an academy. Spontaneously two cross border working groups were created (mediation and marketing). And we will see at next DACH-Treffen 2012 in Lindau (Germany) what the results will be.
Thereafter Antoinette Ruegg, Past President BPW International, explained in her presentation why emotional intelligence is so important and how we can learn and train this in BPW, “through learning by doing” and by gaining experience. An inspiring and insightful presentation that shows that an "official function" in BPW is a learning environment for personal development and contributes greatly to the individual emotional intelligence.
