Latest News BPW News BPW Doutta Galla, Australia, 50th Birthday Celebration

On October 17, 2010 Doutta Galla members and friends celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Clubs foundation.  Guests were greeted by Sharyn Hewett and team who served drinks until they were guided to their seats for luncheon.



Joan M. Heard AM gave an Opening Address and acted as Master of Ceremony for the occasion. A welcome was given to special guests were Mayor, Cr. Shirley Cornish, Cr. Rose Iser of City of Moonee Valley and Mrs. Judy Maddigan MP Member for Essendon,  other BPW Club members, Directors of BPW Cooperative Limited (BPW Co-oP) and Probus Housing Association Inc. An apology was read from the first President, Gwen Bowles. Norma Ford, Inaugural Divisional President proposed a Toast to the Federation, the International Federation and Club.
Her Honour Judge Meryl Sexton responded on behalf of those present. The celebratory cake was cut by Barbara Clancy the longest serving Doutta Galla President. After Luncheon the guests were entertained by vocalist Sheridan Harbour.
A special Toast was proposed at the end of the day to Saint Mary of the Cross Mackillop and this was honoured by all present.
Collect was read by all present, lead by Dorothy Fraser, from a booklet prepared for the 50th by Joan Stephens and given to all present. It contained the ’50 Years of Events within our. ‘We’ll meet again ‘was sung after the Collect. A vote of thanks was given to Joan Stephens for the preparation of the booklet that highlights events such as the planting of the Tree on Arbor Day in Moonee Valley Victory Park which the Late Ann Spark helped to organize.
