Gertrude Mongella Award Winner : Dr. Salima Raisuddin Ahmed


At the BPW International Congress in Helsinki, in June 2011, Dr. Salima Ahmed received
the Gertrude Mongella Award from Liz Benham, President BPW International 2008-2011.

The Gertrude Mongella Award was established by BPW International in recognition of the work done by Gertrude Mongella, Secretary-General for the IV World Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in 1995. The award is presented every three years to an Individual or Group of Individuals chosen by an international jury, in recognition of outstanding work done on an ongoing basis to improve the status of grassroots women.

Dr. Salima Ahmed was born on 11th of June 1926 in Banglore.

Experience

Pass C.S.S examination 1949. 35 years in Government Services as Accountant General East Pakistan, Director of Defense Audit.

Government service

Finance, Finance Director PIDC, Secretary to Federal Government Cabinet Secretariat, Women’s Division, Chairman local Government Council Accounts Committee Sindh Government member.

Founder and life President of Pakistan Federation of Business & Professional Women’s Organization. She has done vast Social services. Founder President of the Federation of Business and Professional Women East Pakistan. Nominated peace messenger by the United Nation in 1988. Awarded Sitar-e-Khidmat in 1968 and VIP award in 1988. International Badge of Honor, BPW International and various medals and skills of honour.

Has represented both as a Government representative and a NGO delegate in various Conferences all over the world, including Status of Women Commission U.N at Vienna for three consecutive years, E.S.C.A.P (1984) at Tokyo, NAM (1985) at New Delhi and Women’s World Conference at Nairobi Conference, Bhamas, the HAGUE, New Zealand, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Canada, Italy, Beijing World Conference. She visited USSR 1968 and Australia 1964 as Good will visit as guest of the Government. Peace Messenger Conference, New York 1989 and USSR. Sochi in 1991 also the Hunger Project Africa, Peace awards ceremony 1989 New York.
