History

At the 17th BPW International Congress in Auckland, New Zealand October 13-18, 1985, Ursula Schulthess, Finance Committee Chair from Switzerland introduced the founding of a new BPW group to be called Friends of IFBPW" The purpose of this group was to gain financial support other than through membership dues and to offer each "Friend" frequent updates on IFBPW activities and a " Friend's newsletter" To become a “friend” members had to contribute at least one hundred dollars per year for two years or more.
By 1989 the number of “friends” had shown steady growth and at the 19th International Congress in Nassau, Bahamas October 16-20 and the annual subscription for “friends was raised to $150 per year
By 1993 at the 21st International Congress in Nagoya, Japan, BPW International had its first Diamond friend for £700 per year in Katuo Hattori a member for many years.
A friend’s newsletter was inaugurated during this triennium 1993-1996.
“Friends of BPW” celebrated its 10th year anniversary in October 1995.
Our past International president Dr Livia Ricci went to great efforts to build up the program and today this sponsor group (members only) continue to provide vital additional funds to BPW International outside of the member dues.

More About

Money raised from friends is used to support administrative costs and to help clubs and young BPW members from economic disadvantaged countries to be able to attend and participate in the International Congress. In 2007 a new addition to the program has been implemented which is that 10% of the annual total friends contributions from an affiliate is given back as a discount on the dues invoice as a benefit for promoting the program.
“Friends of BPW International” receive a pin and the editions of “BPW International” newsletter that informs about the activities of the International Federation and they also enjoy a very exclusive special event at the International Congress.
