The 6th Pan Afro Congress of
Business & Professional Women
BPW Cairo, BPW Guiza and BPW Pyramids in
Egypt organized this event on 28-30 May
2007. It was attended by members of BPW
and potential members from Bahrain, U.A.E.,
Libya, Swaziland, Kuwait, Senegal, Saudi
Arabia, South Africa, Mozambique, and Morocco.
H.R.H. Nomsa, Queen of Swaziland was the
guest of honour. There was also representation
from the African Union, Arab League and
African and Arab Diplomatic.

BPW Benin is preparing
for the BPW Africa Regional Conference which
will be held in Cotonou, Benin on 9-11 August
2007. The theme is “Leadership economique
des femmes en Afrique” (Empowering
Economic Leadership of Women in Africa).

New Clubs in
Africa in 2006 and Potential New Clubs in
2007
BPW membership in Africa is growing. In
2006, we already have two new clubs in Egypt:
BPW Pyramids and BPW Guiza clubs. Two new
clubs were formed in Kodofan and Darfur,
Sudan. A new BPW Club was formed in Nairobi,
Kenya. These last three clubs will be balloted
in early 2007.
Nine new clubs in Africa, which are being
finalized in 2007 include:

BPW Africa Regional
Conference, Cairo, Egypt in April 2006
Africa is showing good promise of growth
and activities. Dr. Amany Asfour, regional
coordinator for BPW in Africa organized
a BPW Africa Regional Conference in Cairo,
April 2006. President Chonchanok, past president
Antoinette Ruegg and I were the executive
board members who attended as International
guest speakers.
The meeting was held with prospective clubs
in the Sudan - BPW Khartoum North, Kordofan
and Darfur. There is also a possibility
of a new club in Mozambique. In Egypt, two
new associate clubs were formally accepted
in May 2006: BPW Guiza and BPW Pyramids.
BPW Benin a fairly new club with many young
BPW members are working on the regional
conference to be held there in August 2007.
We are very proud of them. They are very
enthusiastic and will put together a successful
regional conference. Details will be available
by the next newsletter.

In March I visited South Africa and was
delighted to meet with the presidents and
BPW members of 2 clubs, BPW Pretoria and
BPW Metro. They have committed to increasing
membership.

Announcing
BPW Africa Regional Conference in Egypt
BPW Africa Regional Conference will be
held in Cairo, Egypt on 9-11 April 2006
at the Marriott Hotel. The theme is “Economic
Women Empowerment”. There will be
guest speakers from all over the world covering
variety of topics, including Women Leadership,
Economic Women Empowerment, Role of Business
Women in Economic Development, Role of Business
Women in Social Development, presentations
from BPW in Africa, the Arab World, Mediterranean
region to exchange of experience & projects,
Small and Medium Enterprises, New methods
of finance, Women and ICT. Business of Peace,
Women Entrepreneurship promotion, economic
integration in Africa and Arab world, Business
partnership in the Mediterranean region,
Business opportunities between women in
Africa, Networking and roles of International
Business Organizations, free communications,
women in Trade and Marketing and Diversity
program.

BPW Ouagadougou
organized conferences on HIV/AIDS in February
2006
BPW Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso organized
“Femmes et fistules obst?tricales,
femmes et VIH / SIDA” conference on
8 – 10 February. It was attended by
60 women and a few men from Niger, Senegal,
Sweden and Switzerland. Members met with
Director of United Nations Population Fund
(UNFPA), Genevieve Ah Sue, to discuss a
common project in the UN office in Ouagadougou.
The wife of the Prime Minister, godmother
of BPW Ouagadougou, invited all BPW members
for dinner. Post congress included visits
to different companies and business of BPW
members.
