to South Korea, 19-28th August:

In the last week of August,
two prestigious events took place in South
Korea, APEC Forum on Digital Economy for
Women and 10th Women Leaders Network (WLN)
Meeting. I took these events as great opportunity
of achieving multiple goals, which included
active participation and promotion of BPW
& Young BPW at these events, networking
and learning opportunity, meeting BPW and
Young BPW Korea, Planning and advertising
upcoming Young BPW International meeting.

Meeting with
Young BPW Korea
The Young BPW Chairperson Miss. Roma Para
met the Young BPW Korea Chairperson Enumee
Hawang, Young BPW Rep. Kim, Min Seong and
Young BPW Korea members. She was invited
to attend a lecture on leadership, where
an honorable professor was invited as guest
speaker. The professor said that a good
leader should have qualities like social
sensitivity, good memory, sense of humor,
interpersonal skills, give good impression,
complement others, have good communications
skills and creativity. The Professor also
mentioned what a leader should not have,
which includes Fatigue, Frustrations, unstable
family, lack of finance.
At the end Miss. Rooma
Para was asked to share my thoughts on leadership.
She elaborated on what the professor initiated
and shared experiences and gave examples
from my own life and elaborated on how Young
BPW International proves to be a great platform
for inculcating leadership qualities in
its members. She also shared details about
the upcoming Young BPW International meeting
and how it has been organized in the past,
asked for cooperation and ideas and it was
very encouraging to see the interest of
Young BPW Korea. (Click to see photos one

APEC Forum
on Digital Economy for Women
APEC Forum on “Digital Economy for Women”
was held at Sookmyung Women’s University
in Seoul, Korea 22-23 August, 2005 http://webiz.women.or.kr/forum
Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
and Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy
of Korea hosted this event. It was organized
by Asia Pacific Women’s Information Network
Center (APWINC) and supported by Business
& Professional Women International and
other esteemed APEC and Korean organizations.
Dr. Chonchanok Viravan and Miss. Rooma Para
were invited as speakers at this event.
The title of Dr. Nok’s presentation was
“Strategies of Online Banking Service”.

Training – An ongoing endeavor to Empower

The findings of this forum
were reported in the form of recommendations
to APEC Women Leader Network (WLN), Electronic
Commerce Steering Group,(ECSG), Small &
Medium Enterprise (SME) and Gender Focal
Point Network {GFPN). At the end of the
forum, opening ceremony of “APEC Women’s
E-Business Center” took place. This center
will act as hub of R&D and training
& development related activities for
women entrepreneurs in the field of E-Business.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy
Korea was invited as chief guest. |

APEC 10th Women
Leaders Network (WLN)
The 10th Women Leaders Network (WLN) http://www.2005apecsme.org/wln
meeting as well which took place in Daegu
city of Korea from 23 – 27 August 2005.
The First Lady of Korea was the chief guest.
The theme of this event was “Prosperity
of Women Enterprises through innovation;
New visions for Women Entrepreneurs”. Sub-themes
included Micro-credit Policies and Programs
for Women Enterprises Development, Co-Prosperity
through Growing the Next Generation of Women
Entrepreneurs Access to innovative ICT Technology;
U-World for Women Entrepreneurs and Promote
Trade through Networking. Dr. Chonchanok
Viravan and Miss. Rooma Para participated
in this meeting. We met many strong women
leaders from APEC economies and it was inspiring
to get to know about their initiatives.
The event proved to be great networking
opportunity and a platform for promoting
BPW, Young BPW, upcoming Young BPW meeting
and possibility of collaborations. |

APEC Women e-Biz
Training in Korea during 24-30 July 2005:

There were a total of 33 people who attended
the APEC Women e-Biz Training Program (APWeBiz)
in Korea, out of which 15 are BPW members
from various countries such as Australia,
Chile, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore,
