The
program is to provide a business and professional
support platform to network and form mentor
and protégé/mentee relationships
amongst our present members. Our mentors
come from diverse professions and backgrounds
and will share their personal life and work
experiences, and career skills and knowledge.
The present Singapore Women in Mentoring
(SWIM) Chairperson is Carol Tay and the
Deputy Chairpersons are Lorinda Tan and
Cher Lim.
The goal of the mentoring program is to
encourage young career women who are aged
35 and below to network with other Young
BPW members in the three BPW Clubs (1st
Chapter, Mandarin Chapter and 3rd Chapter).
It also aims to encourage young career women
to hold leadership roles as part of their
professional development and training.
The benefits of the mentoring program include:
- Tapping the knowledge and expertise
of other Singapore Business and Professional
Women Association (SBPWA) members
- Receiving advice from mentors on broad-ranging
issues such as career/business, self-development,
work-life balance and professional grooming
- Explore and develop one’s potential
as a socially responsible corporate citizen
- Gain insight from mentors into the
skills and experience of working life
Events and Workshops:
In order to facilitate the program, SBPWA
members have a bi-monthly “women to
women” networking night for mentors
and protégés/mentees either
in combination with other SBPWA events or
separately such as a wine/dine outing, a
self-improvement workshop, etc. In this
way, mentors and protégés/mentees
will be able to meet each other at least
every 1-2 months in SBPWA events.
One of the inaugural events was held in
November 2006 – the “Mentoring
Program / Fellowship Award Ceremony”.
It included an introduction of mentoring
to members; EPD's Fellowship Award Ceremony;
and a presentation on "Life Ownership"
by Norma Sit.
In the Future:
SWIM plans to establish a website link
to a Blogspot, [an electronic communication
platform] for mentors and protégés/mentees.
The content will include the following categories:
Forum, Mentor Selection Criteria, Mentee
Expectation and Mentor Profile.
