With
38 clubs and approximately 2,400 members
in Switzerland, BPW Switzerland is among
the largest BPW federations in the world.
From January 2007, BPW
Switzerland introduced a national mentoring
program and Individual Development Program
(IDP) for its BPW members. It aims to develop
the professional potential of women and
support their career development with the
guidance from mentors who have the necessary
qualifications, experience and energy to
participate in such a program.
More than twenty BPW clubs
in the European countries have joined together
in an international mentoring network to
offer support and to give advice. A selection
committee was set up to carry out the matching
between mentors and mentees on a national
level as well as overseeing them. The mentoring
program in Switzerland has expanded its
development so that members or interested
parties can look for a mentor in another
city or one who has special abilities elsewhere
through the selection committee.
By joining the mentoring
program, members can attain mutual encouragement,
advice and support. They can also exchange
the ideas among the group of a mentor and
several mentees. The programs like IDP intend
to help women executives get to the top
in the business world. Some of the IDP workshops
focus on the development of leadership qualities
and the negotiation skills in a business
setting.
BPW Switzerland is currently
building its national and local programs
in mentoring and the IDP in the coming months.
