The priority theme is “The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges”

Due to ongoing renovations at the UN Headquarters and space limitations in the North Lawn Building, where the next session will take place, the number of CSW officially accredited attendees from civil society permitted to attend the formal UN CSW meetings that take place on the UN site has been limited to 20 representatives per organization.  However, every BPW member interested in attending CSW 56 in New York will be able to participate in all the planned NGO events and will have input into CSW outcomes.

Visa Applications: BPW International will make available letters in support of Visa applications for members interested in attending NGO parallel events and registering for BPW programmes during CSW 55.

Interested in following UN CSW proceedings and developments?

If you are, you don’t have to attend the actual meetings on United Nations premises during the CSW session. There is no limit to the number of members allowed to take part in the full CSW NGO programme at the Church Centre and other venues nearby that enable a full exchange of ideas with other NGOs and delegates. Timely updates and information will be provided regularly at the Church Centre. The NGO/CSW programme, together with the planned BPW activities, will provide a platform to share and exchange ideas and meet new people sharing similar passions. Members will be able to influence and participate in the CSW55 outcome statement.

In addition a programme of exciting BPW events and activities has been prepared for all members who intend to travel to New York, which will add a distinctive BPW flavour to the above programme and input to CSW outcomes.

The 20 BPW members whom we accredit for the UN CSW sessions will be available to consider input from the other BPW members present to ensure that BPW perspectives are considered in the outcome document.  If you have a special interest in the theme and wish to be considered for one of the 20 places please register now and provide a brief explanation of your special interest or experience in this field.  The deadline for this registration is 23 December 2010.

The registration to attend the general NGO CSW and BPW programme is open to all members. Places for BPW events are limited.
