CSW 57: Outcome Document Approved

On March 15, 2013 the Outcome Document of the Commission on Status of Women (CSW) 57 was agreed upon by all members states of the Commission. Shortly thereafter, Michelle Bachelet, head of UN Women, announced that she was resigning to return to her country. There is speculation that she plans to run for the Presidency of Chile.

It was a long and hard negotiation, and there is much relief that it passed. Next year's topic is the Development Goals after 2015, and one plan is to fold this year's outcome document into that discussion.

Link to Michelle Bachelet's final statement of CSW 57 and her announcement that this will be her last CSW.

Thanks to all who helped get this document through! It was an amazing conference, and one of the historic successes was the establishment of regional CSW groups in Africa, the Asia Pacific region, and Latin America. The CSW for the Middle East is still being born

CSW57 Workshop

Violence Against Women in the Workplace – The Style and Substance of Economic Discrimination

Discrimination against women takes many forms, including by economic means. Women generally have less access to labor markets, entrepreneurship, investment and the wealth of their communities and earn significantly less than men in comparable positions. These inequalities have far-reaching consequences in terms of women's ability to support their families, as well as their mental and physical health and well-being, and constitute a form of violence against the dignity and empowerment of women.

This workshop explores such inequities and the physical and sexual harassment that frequently accompanies them.
