Who is Johanna Marius?

Member of BPW Munich. Launch of the European Network of Female Ambassadors in Stockholm: BPW member nominated Ambassador of Female Entrepreneurs in Germany. A member of Business and Professional Women (BPW) Germany, Johanna Marius from Munich, was nominated Ambassador of Female Entrepreneurship in Germany.

The European Commission has established a network of ambassadors to promote the formation of businesses by women. On October 5 there was the official launch of  the “European Network of Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors“ in Stockholm with 15 national networks and approx. 150 ambassadors from all European nations attending.

It is the goal of the ambassador network to make women aware of entrepreneurial independence and opportunities and thus to increase the number of women who establish their own businesses. As positive role models the ambassadors are to share their experience and motivate and support other women in turning their ideas into reality by establishing their own businesses.  The European network provides a platform for exchanging experience and best practice.

“We are proud to be able to send a member of our professional women's network to Stockholm as ambassador. BPW Germany welcomes the foundation of a European ambassador network which supports women to unfold their full potential and which offers a great opportunity to assert the special interests of women entrepreneurs vis à vis decision makers in the economic world and politics – another step in the direction of equal opportunity”, emphasizes Dagmar Bischof, President of BPW Germany, one of the largest and oldest professional networks for women in Germany which has been supporting working women for more than 70 years.

Background for the establishment of the ambassador network is the fact that the number of women founders in Germany as in all of Europe is still very small. In 2008 the share of women who filed for business licenses in Germany was approx. 33 percent. This corresponds to the European average.

The German network is supported financially by the European Commission and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and is coordinated by the Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum in Stuttgart.
