RATIONALE
By Rachael Clarke, Young BPW Convener, BPW New Zealand
The definition of Young BPW as being “members
------ who are under the age of 35 years
------” was set in place 20 years ago. Since then the
role of women has changed noticeably. The current generation
of younger women are working for longer before they begin
their families and more often than not they balance family
life with continuing to work through those 30 plus years.
In today’s world, the interests and
concerns of women aged 35 to 39 years are more aligned with
those in their twenties and early thirties, than those in
their forties and older.
The current definition cuts many of our talented
members out of this valuable support network just when they
are beginning to make a real contribution to their clubs and
Federations. Young BPW, as it continues to expand, is a fantastic
opportunity for these 35 – 39 year old women to be networking,
sharing and mentoring with other like minded women.
