Statement
I firmly believe that "studying
the different cultures unites people and leads to understanding
and peace". Throughout my trips to different
places in America and Europe, I have been able to appreciate
and learn more about the culture and arts in many countries.
My country, Panama, is located practically
in the middle of America. That is why it has been known
as "bridge of the world and heart of the universe",
because from its very beginning up to this date it has served
as the crossroads for different types of activities. Thus,
I would like that this small country now also serve as the
centre for the cultural regional interaction among BPW members
for learning about each other’s country.
Most important of all shall be to direct
all Committee’s actions towards the regional union,
by studying and enhancing its cultural richness. There are
many outstanding artists and works that should be made known
in the region. In this way, the Committee shall contribute
to the recognition of each group’s cultural identity.
Nowadays, women must have an integral preparation and close
relationship to the world they live in.
Besides, developing and improving art skills are important
goals to look forward for women in each country. All of
this must be coordinated in order to assist women who presently
require help in this field. Some of the main activities
to be pursued by this Committee would be:
- Maintaining data on BPW women involved in Arts and
Culture
- Work on a network to make contacts with all women
interested in the art & crafts world
- Look for and encourage entrepreneurs and access to
possible markets in this field
- Contribute to the creation of employment opportunities
in the home countries of women working in the field
- Promoting forums, fairs, contests or other means
for intensifying cultural knowledge and searching for
innovative ideas
If elected to this position, I shall be
pleased to do my best to activate the Arts & Culture
Committees in BPW Federations or Clubs with the help of
other members or groups that have knowledge and experience
in this area.
