Second Eurasian Women’s Forum
St Petersburg, Russia

President Dr. Amany Asfour attended the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum in Russia, which was inaugurated by President Putin. She spoke on “Economic Empowerment of Women and access to Market in Russia” in a Panel on Africa-Russia Business Dialogue and Economic Empowerment of Women in this Forum. 

She met with UNIDO Managing Director Fatou Haidara and UNIDO Senior Industrial officer Monica Carco as well as several BPW members, including BPW Neva’s President Natalia, President Elena of BPW Club in St Petersburg, etc. 

President Amany also met with Ms. Veronica to start a new BPW Club in Skolkova in Russia.  She also discussed with the Minister of Gender of Cambodia on starting a BPW Club in Cambodia.

2018 World Export Development Forum
Lusaka, Zambia

President Dr. Amany Asfour shared in a Panel of Women in Leadership in conversation during the World Export Development Forum. The forum was organized by ITC (International Trade Center) in collaboration with African Union in Lusaka Zambia.

President Amany spoke on the role of BPW International in Economic Empowerment of Women and promoting women in Trade in Partnership with ITC in the presence of Arancha Gonzalez, Executive Director of ITC. During the forum, she met with potential Business women to start BPW clubs in Zambia, Guinea and Eriteria.

BPW Canada 46th National Convention,
Ottawa, Canada

President Dr. Amany Asfour attended BPW Canada 46th National Convention in Ottawa, Canada at the Fermont Chateau Lauriet. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chief Commissioner of Human Rights of Canada, Mayor of Ottawa. At this convention, Linda Davis was elected a new President of BPW Canada. Jenny Gulamani-Abdulla, immediate past president of President of BPW Canada took on a role as Chairperson of a newly formed taskforce called "Women Migrants and Global Citizenship".

In addition to the Anniversary Celebration, the SDG Gala held the following day highlighted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals featuring a keynote address by the first female First Nations Senator of Canada, The Honorable Lillian Eva Dyck with remarks from Councilor Marianne Wilkinson and the 2017 Recipient of the BPW Canada Centennial Award, Carleton University’s Centre for Women in Politics and Public Leadership’s Executive Director Clare Beckton.

BPW Jordan Event “My Way”, “SMEs and it's effect on Economic Empowerment of Women” Conference and Visited BPW Jordan.
Amman, Jordan

On 5 August 2018 President Dr. Amany Asfour attended the BPW Jordan event “My Way” with BPW Jordan President Rana Abweh, Past President Haifa Al Nagar, Executive Director Thana’a Al-Khasawneh and BPW Jordan Members. It was truly an inspirational and Mentorship event as BPW Jordan had 3 successful Business and Professional Women tell their success stories and their journey to their leadership position. The event also had 3 Women Ministers: the Ministry of International Cooperation, the Minister of Social Affairs and the Minister of Public Sector Development, who talked about their way for success and how they reached their leadership positions. This is a great event to inspire Young BPW members.

On 6-7 August 2018 President Dr. Amany Asfour chaired in a Panel in the “SMEs and it's effect on Economic Empowerment of Women” Conference in Amman, Jordan. BPW Jordan Executive Director Thana’a Al-Khasawneh and BPW Egypt member of Financial Inclusion Committee Ms. Heba Saad, and Dr. Heike Harmgart, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. The conference was organized in collaboration with Arab Union of Banks under the leadership of Mr. Wissam Fatouh.

President Amany spoke about the Role of BPW International in the Economic Empowerment of Women and how to support SMEs and Women business owners through the advocacy pillars of Women in Trade and Access to Markets, Government and Corporate Procurement Policies and Financial Inclusion.

On 9 August 2018 President Dr. Amany Asfour and Ms. Heba Saad, BPW Egypt member of Financial Inclusion Committee, had a great meeting with BPW Jordan President Rana Abweh, Past President Haifa Al Nagar, Executive Director Thana’a Al-Khasawneh and BPW Jordan Members, where they discussed BPW Jordan Projects and how they are contributing to the theme of the BPW International Triennium: Empowering Women to realize the Sustainable Development Goals.

BPWI Regional Congress for North America and the Caribbean,
Orlando, Florida, USA

President Dr. Amany Asfour and almost all BPWI Executives attended the BPW International Regional Congress for North America and the Caribbean in Orlando, Florida, USA, the site of BPW International Congress in 2020.

Regional Coordinator Dawne Williams, Past International President and President of NFBPWC Elisabeth Benhem organized a fantastic Regional Congress with workshops. President Amany congratulated the newly elected NFBPWC President Sandra Thompson and her new Executive Board.

At Gala Dinner on 22 July 2018, President Amany's speech on "Game Changer" was well received.

Many awards were given out to outstanding BPW members and everyone enjoyed the Candle lighting cerebration for the N. America Region. Young BPW also gets an opportunity to have breakfast with the President.

20th COMESA Summit
Lusaka, Zambia

President Dr. Amany Asfour participated in the 20th COMESA Summit, a Common Market of Southern and Eastern Africa, under the theme, 'COMESA: Towards Digital Economic Integration,' which was organized between July 12-19, 2018 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia. During the summit, President Amany met the Ministers of Gender of Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar and The Ministers of Trade of COMESA.

The COMESA summit was designed to rally Member States towards the full adoption of digital technologies; they focused on establishing seamless processes across COMESA region to enable ease of doing business/trade and to enhance regional integration using ICT as a tool. Currently, COMESA is rolling out instruments of Digital Free Trade Area (DFTA), which incorporates e-Trade, e-logistics and e-legislation with the aim of minimize physical barriers between Member States.

During this Summit, the Minister of Gender of Zambia and President Amany agreed to start BPW Affiliates Club in Zambia. They also discussed more issues on Economic Empowerment of Women Through Trade and Access to Markets. This is truly a great advocacy pillar of BPW International.

Panel on the Impact of Financial Inclusion of Women during the G20 Meeting. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

President Dr. Amany Asfour shared in a Panel on the Impact of Financial Inclusion of Women during the G20 Meeting under the auspices of the Presidency of Argentina and the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The panel was moderated by Ms. Khlood Al Dukheil, Managing Director of Al Dukheil Finance Group, who is driving the agenda of Financial Inclusion in Saudi Arabia.

President Amany was sharing the panel with H.R.H. Princess Reema Bint Bandar Al -Saud, Ms. Mai Aboul Naga, Sub-Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, and Ms. Susan Bilbao, Chair of W20 Group Argentina.

Inauguration of the Al Nador Training Center for Women Empowerment; and Meeting with BPW Madrid President and members.
Madrid, Spain

President Dr. Amany Asfour attended the inauguration of the Al Nador Training Center for Women Empowerment in Spain. The training center was first established in Morocco. This is a project of African Foundation chaired by H.E. Maria Therese Fernandez De P.a. Vega, the President of the State Council of Spain, under the patronage, and in the presence, of Her Majesty the Queen of Spain.

The foundation promotes women in STEM Education and Economic Empowerment of Women. This is a great advocacy pillar of BPW Int’l.

President Dr. Amany also met BPW Madrid President Ms. Paz Martín Lozano, and BPW Madrid members and met with H.E. The Minister of Commerce Industry and Tourism of Spain, who is also a member of BPW Madrid. The Minister is newly appointed in the new Cabinet of Spain. The Cabinet, which has more female ministers serving than male ministers, of Spain is now rated number 1 in the world in empowering women.

“International Trade Fair” in DJIBOUTI

President Amany Asfour spoke at a session entitled "Women at the top Leadership" at the International Trade Fair and celebration of 110 Years for the Chamber of Commerce in Djibouti, which was hosted by the Woman Mayor of Djibouti Ms Fatma. Dr. Amany also met with many powerful women to start the BPW In Djibouti.
