Every year on July 15, we celebrate World Youth Skills Day — a global reminder of the importance of equipping young people with the tools they need to succeed: not just for employment, but for leadership, innovation, and personal growth.
This year’s theme, set by the United Nations, is especially powerful:
“Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills.”
It marks the 10th anniversary of this observance and invites all of us to reflect on how digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and technology are shaping the future of work—and why we must ensure young people are ready to lead in this evolving world.
As the Fourth Industrial Revolution transforms our lives, AI is redefining how we live, learn, and work. While technology brings immense opportunities, it also carries risks if not approached equitably. That’s why education, training, and access must be inclusive—especially for young women.
At BPW International, we believe in empowering youth through skills, mentorship, and visibility. The next generation of women leaders must not only be prepared for the future—they must be the ones shaping it.
Skills That Build Confidence and Purpose
As Nahshontia Lightbourne, member of the Standing Committee of Young BPW and Young Representative of BPW Bahamas, beautifully shared:
"As a proud member of BPW, I’ve learned firsthand how investing in my skills has transformed my life and career. From communication to leadership and professional development, the journey hasn’t always been easy—but every step of growth has opened doors I once only dreamed of. Improving my skills gave me confidence, purpose, and a clearer path toward my goals. Being part of BPW has amplified that journey. Through mentorship, networking, and opportunities to lead, BPW has helped me expand not only what I know—but who I am."
"On this World Youth Skills Day, I encourage every young person to stay committed to learning and growing. The skills you sharpen today will shape the future you walk into tomorrow.”
BPW offers more than a network—it provides a platform for growth, where young women can learn, lead, and transform their dreams into reality. Through workshops, project management, public speaking opportunities, and leadership training, our young members gain real-world skills that empower them to thrive personally and professionally.
What Skills Are We Developing at BPW?
At BPW, young members gain access to:
- Communication & negotiation skills
- Leadership & public speaking
- Critical thinking & decision-making
- Project and event management
- Cross-cultural collaboration
- Innovation and entrepreneurship
And most importantly: the confidence to lead and the vision to create change.
A Call to Action
Today, we invite every young member in our network—and beyond—to embrace the power of continuous learning. Explore new skills, challenge yourself, seek mentorship, and never underestimate the power of your voice.
We also call on all BPW clubs to support youth empowerment by offering skill-building opportunities, highlighting the achievements of young members, and opening doors for leadership.
Let’s ensure that world is more inclusive, more equitable, and more inspired by the leadership of young women.
