On Earth Day, we invite BPW women, Green Ambassadors, SCC members and our wider community to come together for one honest and meaningful conversation:
What can I do today to care for our planet?
In a world shaped by climate disruption, biodiversity loss, pollution, overconsumption and growing uncertainty, it is easy to feel overwhelmed.
But meaningful change still begins with awareness, responsibility and small actions that are repeated consistently.
This Earth Day, the BPW International Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development invites you to pause, reflect and speak up.
The session will begin with a short opening by Siiri Tiivits-Puttonen, Chair of the SCC, who will share a brief reality check on where the world stands today and why our choices still matter.
After that, we open the space for a shared conversation:
an open mic Earth Day circle, where participants are invited to reflect and share:
What concerns me most right now?
What can I do today?
What can I do differently in my family, work, business or community?
What promise am I willing to make for the coming year?
Join us. Reflect with us. Speak with us. Promise with us.
Participants are invited to also turn their reflection into a visible public commitment through the Promise for the Planet movement.
Where Water Flows, Equality Grows: Advancing Gender Equality through Water Access, Management, and Innovation
Date and Time: Wednesday, 08 April 2026, at 15:00 UTC
Organizer: BPW International Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development
Background and Rationale
World Water Day, observed annually on 22 March under UN auspices, raises global awareness of freshwater challenges and mobilizes action toward SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation for All). The official 2026 theme, "Water and Gender", with the powerful slogan "Where water flows, equality grows", is led by UNICEF and UN Women. It underscores safe water and sanitation as fundamental human rights and essential enablers of gender equality (SDG 5).
Women and girls disproportionately shoulder the burdens of water insecurity spending millions of hours daily collecting water, facing heightened health and safety risks, and losing opportunities for education and employment. At the same time, they remain underrepresented in water governance and decision-making. The UN-Water campaign calls for transformative, rights-based approaches that center women's voices as users, workers, leaders, and changemakers, fostering inclusive, sustainable, and climate-resilient water services that benefit entire societies.
This webinar, hosted by the BPW International Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development Goals, aligns directly with this theme. It amplifies women's leadership in sustainability and contributes to BPW's mission of empowering women to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals through practical action and advocacy.
