Dear BPW Sisters,
It is a profound honor to address you today on the United Nations International Day of Peace. (September, 21)
Peace is not only the absence of war.
- It is respect for diversity.
- It is inclusion and cooperation.
- It is the very foundation upon which societies prosper and humanity advances.
And yet, across the world, too many still suffer from violence and division. This truth reminds us: peace is not guaranteed. It must be cultivated, protected, and renewed through our commitment and action.
As women leaders and professionals, we carry a unique responsibility. Leadership rooted in empathy, wisdom, and integrity can bridge divides, foster dialogue, and create conditions for equality and justice. History has shown that when women help shape peace, that peace is stronger, fairer, and more sustainable.
As members of BPW, let us lead by example.
Let us show fairness in our workplaces.
Let us bring respect to our communities.
Let us extend solidarity across nations and borders.
Peace is not only a vision for the future.
It is a duty of the present.
And it begins with us—here, today.
May this message inspire us to renew our determination, strengthen our networks, and build together a more peaceful, inclusive, and equitable world for generations to come.
To turn this commitment into practice, here are six key action points for BPW members:
1. Lead with fairness and integrity.
2. Choose dialogue over division.
3. Reject all forms of discrimination.
4. Practice kindness and respect in daily leadership.
5. Protect our environment as a foundation for future peace.
6. Strengthen women’s networks to advance peace locally and globally.
Let’s embrace peace and take action in our communities and beyond. Together, we shape a sustainable and peaceful future.
With commitment to peace,
Diana Barragán
