UNESCO Global Citizenship Prize - Deadline 1 September

UNESCO is inviting nominations for the inaugural UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education (GCED) — a prestigious new global initiative recognizing innovative and impactful projects that advance the values, principles, and practice of GCED. This biennial prize, launched in 2024 with the support of the Republic of Korea, seeks to raise the visibility of transformative initiatives that foster justice, peace, human rights, and sustainable development through education.

What is Global Citizenship Education?

Global Citizenship Education is a transformative approach that equips learners with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed to address global challenges such as inequality, climate change, discrimination, and conflict. It promotes:

  • Respect for human rights and cultural diversity
  • Social and emotional learning for peacebuilding and inclusion
  • Critical thinking and civic engagement
  • Agency to challenge injustice and inequality
  • Collaboration across groups and borders to solve shared challenges

By integrating GCED into formal and informal education systems, the aim is to nurture responsible, empathetic, and engaged citizens who can contribute meaningfully to more just, healthy, and inclusive societies.
