UN Nutrition advocates for a food systems transformation with people at its heart and with nutrition outcomes as its principal measure of success. With one voice from members, UN Nutrition embraces a human rights-based approach, and promotes the right to adequate food as a means to address social and environmental determinants of nutrition, health, climate change, water scarcity, biodiversity, social protection, education, women’s empowerment, innovative financing, and more.

This event, organized in the context of the Pre-Summit of the UN Food Systems Summit, will show how UN leadership is rallying forces for nutrition, leaving no one behind, in the context of food systems transformation.

The event will be opened by Naoko Yamamoto, UN Nutrition Chair and WHO’s Assistant Director-General for Universal Health Coverage and Healthier Populations, followed by a keynote address by Henrietta H. Fore, Executive Director of UNICEF and Chair of the SUN Lead Group, that will focus on the importance of the right to food and good governance for nutrition.

A panel with four speakers, including the Minister of Health of Guyana, the World Food Prize laureate for 2021, the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria and a Youth leader, will plant the seeds for building coalitions for nutrition that cut across the Food Systems Summit Action Tracks and Action Areas.

The event will close with a call for action by H.M. Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan, the WFP Special Advisor on Mother and Child Health and Nutrition.

The session will be moderated by Nancy Aburto, Deputy Director of the Food and Nutrition Division in FAO and member of the UN Nutrition Steering Committee.

We look forward to your active participation!
