In 2020, Iceland experienced a 40% increase in night-life crimes creating an unsafe environment for young women. A prevention program has been introduced to eliminate sexual assaults crimes in the partying scenes. 

The Prime Minister mentioned that Gender Equality Education has also been introduced in the Primary and Secondary Schools' Curriculum where students find a safe space to speak up, making Gender Equality not only for women and girls but also for Men and Boys.

Aslaug Arna Sigurbjornsdottir, the 31year old Minister of Higher Education, Science, Industry and innovation inspires the Youngs at BPW Regional Conference Europe 2022.

Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir shares common practices, sighting examples in Iceland on how Institutions can develop social and technological solutions for the protection of individual rights.

The Iceland Reykjavík metropolitan police for example,  launched an online service portal for victims of sexual violation allowing them a direct and remote digital access to the development of their cases. This means that the victims can monitor their cases when it moves stages within thr criminal justice system. This eases some of the uncertainties that the victims have described as the most difficult part of seeking justice.

It is a tradition at every YoungBPW Symposium for the Youngs to meet with the International President. At this meeting, the young members get to connect with the President, ask pressing questions, discuss processes and procedures of BPW International. 

At the 9th Young BPW Europe Symposium Breakfast Meeting, the President’s key words were 'Inclusion and Collaboration' in line with the Triennium Theme - New Actions Through Cooperation - as this will strengthen the BPW Sisterhood bond and achievements.

The 17th European Conference and 9th BPW Young Symposium in Reykjavík in May 27- 29 2022. This took place at the  Hilton Reykjavík Nordica and the conference was themed "Equality". 

Amongst the thought provoking conversation discussed on the High Level Panels and the very insightful workshops that took place during the conference, was the Young BPW Workshop on "Equality, Equity and Intersectionality" facilitated by Julia Claussen. 

This workshop highlighted the pioneers of these movement, she took a deep dive into taking the conversations further from Equality and extending it to Equity and  intersectionality, sighting the examples. She also narrowed the conversation down to how this topics play a role in the BPW Clubs' Network and how we can improve on being an inclusive organisation with Equity at the fore.

Johanna Futen speaks on the different between 'Equality' & 'Equity' at the YoungBPW Europe workshop

Johanna 's contributions to the ongoing Young BPW Workshop on "Equality, Equity and Intersectionality". This session was facilitated by Julia Claussen. 

Johanna Füten was elected to the Federal Executive Board by the Berlin General Assembly in 2019. She is now the new President of BPW Germany as a Youngbpw.  She also heads the Young BPW Rheinrher and is a board member of BPW Duesseldorf.
